The 1925 Historic School Program

General Overview of the Program

The purpose of the program is to give students a living history experience of attending a West Texas school, circa 1915-1925. Using period curriculum, based on the State Superintendent of Public Instruction Biennial Report, 1916-1918, students will experience Texas and U.S. history, writing, and arithmetic lessons tied into the historical period.

Activities take place in the restored 1920-1930 Cottonwood School Building located at the Buffalo Gap Historic Village.

The 2004-2005 program begins on October 4. Advance reservations are required (at least three weeks in advance). Class size is limited to 40-50 students, based on the number of period desks in the classroom. Classes of 25 or less may take the guided tour in the morning and spend the afternoon in the schoolhouse. The program is available on Monday through Friday. Student admission is $1.50 per student and $3.00 per adult escort (one free escort admission per 10 students).
