The Texas Frontier Heritage and Cultural Center™
presents:

“Don’t Let the Stars Get in Your Eyes” – Slim Willet’s Idiosyncratic Chart-Topper Lives On!

Of course, you’ve heard of the song, even if you haven’t heard of Slim Willet. Texas music historian Joe Specht comes to the Village for our

Joe Specht
February Chautauqua lecture to tell you all about both the man and his song (which became everyone else’s song as well). Specht, whose book The Women There Don’t Treat You Mean: Abilene in Song was recently published by State House Press, will enhance his remarks by playing selections from several recorded versions of “Stars,” including a parody by Homer & Jethro. This is one presentation you won’t want to miss!

Saturday, February 9, 2008
11:00 AM-12:30
PM in the Village Gallery
Admission: $10 (includes all day admission to the Village
and free use of a sound wand for the day)

RSVP by 5:00 February 8: (325) 572-3365

Don’t Let The Stars Get in Your Eyes is another presentation in our Chautauqua Learning Series. The Learning Series is based on the Chautauqua movement which spread throughout the rural United States in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It provided educational lectures and entertainment for average Americans before the advent of mass media like radio and television. The Texas Frontier Heritage and Cultural Center™ is proud to continue the spirit of that tradition in the unique setting of the Buffalo Gap Historic Village.
