FACILITIES MANAGER
Job Description
Reporting Relationship:
This position reports
directly to the Executive Director, but maintains working relationships to the
additional positions of President, Vice President, Business Manager,
Historian-in-Residence, Collection Manager, and Press Project Manager.
Basic Description of
Responsibilities:
The Facilities Manager is
responsible for the day to day maintenance of the physical properties owned by
the Grady McWhiney Research Foundation. This employee will insure the
successful operation of the Texas Frontier Heritage & Cultural Center.
Additional responsibilities
include:
- supporting the Executive
Director by implementing all policies and procedures;
- maintaining the safety and
security of the Center;
- insuring the opening and
closing of the Buffalo Gap Historic Village (outdoor museum) during hours
of operation;
- insuring the management and
rental of the Center, specifically the Historic Village and The Parsonage
(guest house);
- managing the budget as
approved by the Board of Directors;
- supervising employees and
managing weekly work schedules;
- supervising university
student interns;
- coordinating with
university faculty and administration to insure that university student
internships meet academic program requirements;
- managing weekly work
schedules for university student interns;
- submitting bi-weekly
payroll information and monthly status reports to the Business Manager;
- submitting event schedules
to the Abilene Convention and Visitors Bureau and additional media
contacts;
- coordinating with all
vendors and contractors applicable to the needs of the Center;
- assisting employees in the
cleaning of buildings and moving of objects as needed;
- assisting contractors as
required;
- assisting with the set up
of events, including but not limited to, recurring monthly events, special
events, weddings, meetings;
- providing ideas to improve
the visitor and employee experience.
Additional Requirements:
The hours of operation for
the Texas Frontier Heritage & Cultural Center are as follows:
- Buffalo Gap Historic Village is open seven days a week. The Historic Village is closed on New Year’s day, Thanksgiving day, and Christmas day.
The Historic Village’s hours of operation include: opening at 10:00 a.m.
Monday through Saturday; opening Sunday at 12:00 p.m. (noon); closing at
6:00 p.m. from Memorial Day through Labor Day; and closing at 5:00 p.m.
the day after Labor Day through the day before Memorial Day.
- The Parsonage (guest house)
is open year round. This position will insure the guest
accommodations are available for rental and are maintained year round.
- A thorough inventory of the
Texas History Store (retail gift store located at the Historic Village ) is conducted once a year on January 2nd. The Facilities
Manager is responsible for supervising the employees and contractors
involved in the inventory count. He/she will conduct the inventory
under the supervision of the Business Manager. An inventory is also
conducted for State House Press and McWhiney Foundation Press on January 3rd
of each year. This position may be required to assist in this
inventory.
- The administrative offices
are open Monday through Friday, with the exception of scheduled
appointments or meetings.
To insure the operations of the Center remain intact during peak visitor
attendance, the work week for the Facilities Manager will be Wednesday
through Sunday.
Education, Experience, and
Skills:
Undergraduate degree
required. Minimum of five years work experience, which includes a
supervisory position; basic maintenance/carpentry skills; basic computer
knowledge in Microsoft Office; the ability to lift a minimum of 30 lbs.
Writing skills and an understanding of the English language (both written and
oral) are required. The ability to handle various special projects on an
ongoing basis, while addressing daily needs for the Center, is important.
This employee should be a team player; be attentive to daily appearance; and
maintain good housekeeping traits.
