Volunteer Job Description

 

Position Title: Maintenance & Groundskeeping
Position Classification: Volunteer
Benefits: After 30 hours of service, Volunteer receives a year long Pioneer Membership (Family) which includes personalized membership cards for volunteer and spouse, unlimited free admission to BGHV and the Abilene Zoo, invitations to members-only events, a 10% discount at the Texas History Store, priority registration for events and fundraisers, and the BGHV newsletter. BGHV staff will train volunteer on using equipment associated with this position.

Volunteer Duties:

Maintain presentation and safety of physical plant and livestock, including feeding livestock, cleaning livestock areas as necessary, maintaining health of livestock, mowing properties, gardening, making needed repairs, replacing worn out equipment, keeping tools, equipment, display cases, and buildings in safe working condition.
Volunteer reports dangerous or destructive events, people, animals, buildings, equipment, situations, and other items of concern to the Assistant Site Manager and/or Site Manager.
Certain events may necessitate staying later than normal operating hours and volunteer may be asked to assist in these after hours special events.

Volunteer may be asked to assist in opening and closing the site.

Responsibilities:

All volunteers for the Buffalo Gap Historic Village, an educational program of the Grady McWhiney Research Foundation, for the safety of themselves, fellow volunteers, staff and visitors must follow all existing and future policies for volunteers.

Volunteers must obey all local, state, and federal laws.

Additional:

Buffalo Gap Historic Village Management may reassign volunteer to other positions as needed and with proper training. Volunteer may ask for additional training at any time and may also take on additional volunteer responsibilities of other volunteer positions.

If volunteers at any time feel they are not trained or equipped to accept or complete any task assigned to them, the BGHV staff will be available to provide training and equipment.
